The International Festival of Song and Chamber Music Society has spent the last two years of the pandemic working on a special film project of Schubert’s Winterreise song cycle. We are extremely grateful for the continued financial support from all of our donors and from the Calgary Arts Development and the Alberta Foundation for the Arts, and the Harry and Martha Cohen Foundation for continued funding of this project.
Schubert’s Winterreise (Winter Journey) is a timeless trip.
Our version of Die Winterreise is set in rural Alberta. I am grateful for the collaboration of one of Canada’s finest baritones, Brett Polegato and Dutch-Canadian artist Eveline Kolijn on this project, the participation of two very promising young pianists, Cindy Zhang and Jack Olszewski, as well as Artistic Co-Directors Charles Foreman and myself, Kathleen van Mourik. Recording engineer Trey Mills and videographer Stephen Lubig are our sound/video partners.
The long term goal is to create a DVD/CD and book of the artwork that we hope to publish in the near future.
